The other night, my wife and I decided to go out on the lake after work and have a picnic dinner. We packed our two kayaks in my Kia hatchback (which is a funny site all by itself), we went to a local ‘food establishment’ and got an order of chicken strips, biscuits, and tea to go. We had packed some camping chairs and a small camp table too. We hit the lake and paddled for about 45 minutes and civilization melted away. We set up camp and proceeded to eat our ‘delicious’ meal. While we were eating and chatting in this absolute picturesque scene, a beaver was made his presence known to us by slapping his tail on the water. It was getting dark and we were finished with our ‘delicious’ meal, so we packed up the boats and headed back. My wife works in an occupation that demands her to be ‘a bit confrontational,’ so on the paddle back; my wife started slapping her paddle on the water to egg on the beaver. She did this ran-DUMB-ly about a dozen times, then got bored with it and stopped. That’s when the beaver made its' plan to counter attack! For a moment in time, that will forever be known as “the scream heard round the lake”, the beaver made its move -- it came right next to my wife’s boat, I mean not an inch separated her from the beaver, then it slapped its tail right next to her! I couldn’t stop laughing! Moral of the story: it’s not nice to fool with Mother Nature!
